Dear Holden,

Attached is St. Aloysius School's Round 2 application for Cause 4. Several attachments are included in the main document, and various others are attached to this email.

In our phone conversations, you inquired about our screening process and eligibility for students entering our separate gender middle schools.  I wanted to take this opportunity to describe our methods.

All incoming 6th graders, including students entering from other schools and St. Aloysius 5th graders applying for our middle schools, are required to attend summer school at St. Aloysius in July and summer camp in Lake Placid, New York in August. Both of these activities give faculty and staff daily contact with applicants to assess their suitability for enrollment at St. Aloysius. Academic prowess and financial means do not play a role in the eligibility process. Instead, we spend the summer months assessing students in terms of their attitude, their ability to engage with and support their peers, and their willingness to work hard.

Attitude is the single most important factor.  We accept students who struggle academically, if they show a positive attitude and the willingness to work hard regardless of past failure. A good attitude towards their studies and to each other are crucial.

Once again, we appreciate the opportunity to submit this application, and your patience.

If I can provide any further information, please feel free to contact me at this email address or at 212-283-0921 ext. 2229.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Best,

--
